About Jim.
DMC Tours Ireland is the website of Jim Dempsey, one of Ireland’s leading tour guides, who offers private custom tours of Ireland. Most of the tours are with Jim himself but at the peak of the season tours can we arranged with an elite group of guides chosen by us.
He began guiding in 1999 by accident. He was working as a private chef on a ten-day tour with one of Ireland’s top private tour operators. The spotted him and commented “you are a natural for tour guiding, would you like to work with us”. And so, it began!
Today Jim is a Failte Ireland recognised ‘National Tour Guide’ and ‘Dublin and Environs Tour Guide’. He has qualified with Trinity College Dublin course for the Book of Kells – the ancient early Christian manuscript.
He also qualified as a guide in Glasnevin Cemetery, the national cemetery of Ireland which is the resting place of so many Irelands’ notable citizens. Regular continuous training and development is essential to remain fresh and contemporary as a guide. Voice, breath, storytelling workshops are all part of the development.
He lectures the National Tour Guiding program in Dublin and has trained many of Ireland’s leading tour guides today. He undertakes constant research and continuous learning as a result. Storytelling workshops, voice training and personal development course are added. A whiskey tasting course was undertaken once, under duress!
Previously he worked in the organic, natural and artisan food sector. He is a qualified Complimentary Health Therapist with a keen sense of the holistic.
